The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program is a United States Department of Education program that markets, originates, and disburses loans for higher education (including Stafford, Perkins, and PLUS loans). Usually referred to as "direct," the terms of its loans parallel those offered through the complementary Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), though FFELP providers have more flexibility to offer incentives and discounted rates.
