[edit] Trivia

  • Originally, Robin was going to inhale the Scarecrow toxins by accident, thus triggering a nightmare flashback from his last night working at the circus. This was scrapped, delaying the origin of Robin until Robin's Reckoning.
  • Bruce Timm stated that in pre-production of the show, Robin would have been around 11-14 years old, and he was, in fact, in many of the scripts for the first season. Timm cut him from most of these, because he did not like the character that much at first, due to remembering Burt Ward's version of Robin.
  • Look closely in Brian and Dick's dorm room at the start of the episode, a picture of Bruce with Dick at the latter's graduation is shown. The writing says "Congratulations on graduating, Dick. Good luck in college! --Bruce."
  • The design of the Scarecrows' mask was totally redesigned from this episode onwards, consisting of eyes, straw hair and teeth making the design slightly more threating to audiences.

[edit] Quotes

  • Comissioner Gordon: (to Batman about the thug) That's how we found him. Scared as a rat out of the cat convention.
  • Scarecrow: (disguised) Lost? You have that bewildered look, but your sort always does.
Thug: I ain't lost. I'm looking for you. I wanna know how come you always win, Mr. Lucky.
Scarecrow: (disguised) It's quite simple actually. I fixed the games.
Thug: You can't fix all of the sports, nobody can!
Scarecrow: (disguised) Oh, he of little brain, allow me to illustrate. (hands a letter) Here, you can read, can't you?
(The thus gets the letter and reads out loud)
Thug: Booo! Hey, is this some kinda joke?
Scarecrow: (disguised) It's no joke, I assure you. It's the fear of victory and the agony of...(Thug pulls Scarecrow as his true form is revealed) The Scarecrow! So now you understand step 1 in how I fix an athletic contest. I shall proceed to step 2.
  • Comissioner Gordon: (about Scarecrow) You're telling me that the walking pile of straw scares the stuffing out of sport stars, and bet against their teams?
Batman: Exactly, a perfect way to scare up some quick cash for his quick schemes.
  • Scarecrow: (about the athlete) Shouldn't he frustrating himself crying for mercy?
    Batman: Change of luck, Scarecrow?
    Scarecrow: You!
Batman: You aware that gambling is illegal in Gotham?
Scarecrow: I need the money, Batman. You know the cost of chemicals these days. It would take more than this (presents a vial) to bring every pathetic person to Gotham to their knees kissing my feet! (Batman closes) No closer, Batman unless you wanted half crazed humanity crashing and clawing with each other. Oh, no.
