Talk:FDA (trade union)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have changed the name of the union in the main page, but have not, so far, been able to change the title, which still says First Division Association. This is wrong. I think I will be able to change this after I have been registered for longer? Guineveretoo 12:27, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- The legal name of the union is the FDA. Please don't muddle legal names with slogans.--Runcorn 00:05, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
The registered name of the union is "FDA - the union of choice for senior managers and professionals in public service" (http://www.tuc.org.uk/tuc/unions_main.cfm#F), which is why I changed it. Guineveretoo
- The registered name is just "FDA". Like many other unions, it has a subtitle. If you enter into a contract with the FDA, that will be the name on the contract. I am afraid that you cannot move this article to the name "FDA" because an article with that name already exists.--Runcorn 12:51, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
That's a shame, because it is NOT the First Division Association (despite this name being used by the press), and it would be good if Wikipedia could get it right. There is a difference between the legal name, and the registered name, but it really doesn't matter what it says on the page on here, so let's move on from that. I do think we should try to change the name of the article to FDA, though. Guineveretoo 13:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- How about something like "FDA (British trade union)"? Don't forget to amend FDA (disambiguation).--Runcorn 16:20, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
So long as it can be done, that's good. I am not sufficiently confident with editing wikipedia to feel comfortable about doing that yet - perhaps I will build up that confidence! Would it require changing all the references to First Division Association on other articles, too? Guineveretoo 18:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
