FC Shakhter are a Kazakhstani football based in the Shakhtyor Stadium in Karagandy. They have been members of the Kazakhstan Super League since its foundation in 1992. Before this they were one of the leading Kazakh teams in the football of the Soviet Union.

FC Shakhter in its first appearance on the European arena played against the FC MTZ-RIPO Minsk from Belarus and lost 1-5.They won the second leg 3-1 but this wasnt enough as they went out on aggregate.
