[edit] Qur'an question

Hi, you recently reverted a rather lengty contribution (on the Qur'an's [1] stance on disbelievers) by some anon user a couple of times. I was just reading the article out of interest and was wondering what made this stuff nonsense - was it out of context, freely invented, or something else? It'd be nice if you could clarify that

[edit] Difficult user

Hi, FayssaF! I've been having difficulty with Abdel Hameed Nawar (talk contribs) on Allah (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) and Template:Islam (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs). I see you've reverted his edits before. He refuses to discuss his edits, which are either biased (in the case of the template) or poorly written and unreferenced (in the case of 'Allah'). I've tried to talk, but he keeps on. I could do with someone else having a look at this. Thanks. — Gareth Hughes 16:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boston, Ontario and User:GVnayR

I did some further work on the Boston, Ontario article. That place turns out to be real, but an unincorporated area rather than an incorporated municipality. Perhaps the indefinite block on User:GVnayR should be reconsidered. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 17:09, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:GVnayR

If you will examine GVnayR's talk page, you will see numerous complaints of hoax articles and the like. Much of his work fails to appear in his contributions simply because his articles have been deleted. Blocking him was the correct action to take. If you wish, I'll keep you apprised of his renewed misdeeds. Rklawton 20:17, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Harrassment via e-mail

I recieved a batch of 15 e-mails from Wikipedia saying that I had forgotten my password, thus resetting it 15 times. The source was 67.21.64.157. I see he/she has already been blocked for a month regarding user harrassment- I'm not sure where to take this, so I figured I should ask an admin. --Wafulz 21:41, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

To clarify I got fifteen e-mails that said this:
Someone (probably you, from IP address 67.21.64.157) requested that we send you a new Wikipedia login password for en.wikipedia.org.
Blocking wikipedia would be a bit impractical in my opinion. Anyway, it was only during a half hour period when I was logged off. Gmail batches multiple e-mails from the same source into one, so the spam didn't actually fill my inbox. It's not a big deal at this point- I was just concerned because this IP has a history of blocks for user harrassment, and since something like this doesn't appear on his Contrib list, I thought he might be doing it to other users. --Wafulz 16:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think there's a way for an admin to block an IP from resetting someone's password, though it would be a good idea. This vandal was also using the IP 68.233.12.106. Evil saltine 22:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict

Hi FayssalIF, I noticed you have just reinserted material in the lead about the difficulties reaching the ceasefire. While I agree that the US obstructions are important, and would definitely be included in the lead if I could write it from my point of view, the current size and scope of the lead is the result of intensive discussions on the talk page. As you can see from that debate, we desperately need to keep the lead as short as possible, as it is already much too long according to Wikipedia lead size policies. Other people have wanted to include the equally important run-ups to this particular clash, and yet others always want to add late developments to the end of the lead - in each case making it both grow and become a battle ground for edit wars.

So, as most editors probably agree that we can't add more to the existing lead, this means that anything added requires the removal of something else - and based on that, most would not agree that text about the diplomatic wrangling is more important than any of the existing stuff. And, as both you and I know, anything that casts the US or Israel in a bad light will immediately lead to counter- edits by "the other side", causing the lead to grow even further or cause pointless edit wars where nobody will give up.

Because of this, I'll restore the lead to what it was and hope that you will understand and refrain from trying to add it again. Best regards Thomas Blomberg 18:04, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Islamic Barnstar Award

Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Although there is consensus for the concept of an Islamic Barnstar Award, some editors would like to change the image for the award. I was just thinking you should be aware of this discussion because you have contributed to Islamic-related articles, received the Islamic Barnstar Award, or have contributed to the Islam-related Wikiprojects, etc.--72.48.104.52 16:33, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Fayssal

I'm still stuck only using Wikipedia as a reference...I just don't have the time yet to go back to being a real contributor, making a hobby out of it again. But when I'm using it as a reference I often make little tweaks, fix typos, formatting errors, et cetera. That's pretty much all I'm good for, at the moment! [edit] Protecting Muhammed - difficult call, but the right one

As sad as I am to see the protect status go on muhammed, I suspected it would be needed. This was why I have been pushing for a consensus, or at least a watertight explaination for the paraagraph. With explainations availible, it should become easier to deal with changes and those who make them without discussion, and any future discussion would know the reasoning they have to counter. Thank you, and let's hope we can get this sorted out soon. LinaMishima 12:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page protection by an admin involved in a content dispute?

Mr. FayssalF I have edited Wikipedia before and noticed that administrators cannot protect pages that they are involved in a content dispute on. There is a policy against that no? In addition you've protected the page on your preferred version. You must know that is extremely wrong. Before editing on the Muhammad article I looked through the archives (to better understand the history of the article) and I found this discussion and consensus that established the version that you are reverting. This is the second wrong thing you have done. If I am not mistaken administrators cannot use the rollback tool in a content dispute either no? I noticed that the new image question was "new" and so in editing I have left that out... that seems reasonable no? 62.25.96.105 12:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Mr. FayssalF, you are reverting twice here to your preferred version:
and now you have protected the article where you were edit warring on your preferred version.
This page:
says, "Admins must not protect pages they are actively engaged in editing, except in the case of simple vandalism.". Do unprotect the article Mr. FayssalF so that you will be no problems for you. 62.25.96.105 12:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Mr. FayssalF, do you not agree that there was a consensus verion befor? Your new version is against this old consensus, no? 62.25.96.105 12:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
It is sad that you are threatening me as I am polite to you. I have edited with an IP before (I mean to say that befor). You know that you are wrong. I am disappointed. You can block me too if you want which now that you have been wrong twice is not surprising to think you will do. Goodbye. 62.25.96.105 13:07, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Perejil y...ajo

Hi Fayssal. What is that you don't live in my changes to isla Perejil? I said "in a matter of hours" because otherwise it is not clearly understood by anyone not familiar with the stuff how short 1this action took. I deleted "at a cost of 1 million" because I don't see detailed costs of every other militar operation carried anywhere else. I made a reference to José María Aznar to put it in historical context. I change the "initial cold shoulder" to "rather" since actually the cold shoulder from Portugal and France never turned even into "warm" throughout the crisis and...what else? Ah, yes, the "loose action in this regard", well, in this I may concede some pov thing: I still stand by my original idea (which is that claiming that the violation was made to deter "illegal immigration" is very funny given the Moroccan attitude regarding this, at least by the time) however I admit we could express it in a different way. Anyway, since this entry doesn't register much traffic -hopefully- I hope that we could agree on that and fix a final version. Looking forward to hear from you Mountolive 16:01, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Fayssal. Well, what I meant with the "loose action" thing is that the Moroccan government claim saying that one of the reasons for settling in the islet was the one of reenforcing illegal immigration rules was obviously nothing but a cover up, since by that time this government was hardly cooperating at all with the Spanish one in this matter, hence, that claim was obviously meant to hide the "testing waters" mentioned in the entry. If you agree with the other amendments...may I proceed restauring them again? I'll try to explain the "loose action" thing in some better way and see if you agree with it or not. Thanks! Mountolive 22:58, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How do I delete my user page?

סרגון יוחנא

Fayssal, can you please warn him about this and this? —Khoikhoi 18:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Not that I know of. He said once that the IP 12.15.7.70 (talk contribs) is a "workplace, therefore many different people may use this at any given time". [8] However, I highly doubt that he is telling the truth because all these accounts exhibit almost the exact same behavior as him. Regardless, it would still be meatpuppetry. Also note that 68.62.93.145 (talk contribs), another IP of Sargonious', made this edit to Shaitan Al Mahdi's userpage. I think that gives it away right there.
One more thing: can you also explain to him that you can't delete sockpuppet tags? Thanks again. —Khoikhoi 03:17, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate it. Thanks for the understanding. I appologize for some of the inflamitory anti-Islamic remarks I may have made. It's a product of an extreme Christian upbringing. I'm not really that fond of any religion nowadays. However this isn't the place for it. I just get silly sometimes and go on childish rants. I'm not really contributing as much since the new Assyrian people page got updated. I have contributed positively to that as well as many other articles. [edit] Dispute w/ Khoikhoi

I have one more request concerning Khoikhoi's edits and reversions of the Assyrian people page. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Assyrian_people&action=history

He keeps reverting the article that states "Assyrians are the indegenous..." to "Assyrians consider themselves to be indegenous..."

If you look at the Kurdish people page it actually states that they are indegenous to the area. If one group can make the claim why can't the other? Also historically Assyrians predate Kurds in the area of Northern Iraq. So why isn't he refuting their claim of being "indegenous."סרגון יוחנא 20:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Because the article is about the modern Assyrians, not the ancient Assyrians. —Khoikhoi 20:31, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
It doesn't matter. Kurds claim descent from God knows how many ethnic groups. Assyrians claim Aramean, Chaldean, Assyrian, all of whom are indegenous to Iraq and the Mid-East.סרגון יוחנא 20:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
