Fay Kleinman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fay Kleinman (born 1912) is an internationally recognized painter. Most of her work is oil on canvas, but she has done some mixed-media work, too, and a few watercolors. She has exhibited in museums in New York and Massachusetts and in galleries in six other states. She is the co-founder of the Becket Arts Center in Becket, MA.

She is 94 and still painting. Some refer to her as "Bubbie Kleinman." She is the grandmother of Brian and Randy Napoleon. Brian Napoleon is a young adult with cerebral palsy who does interesting ceramic work. Randy Napoleon is an internationally recognized jazz guitarist. She has painted portraits of both her grandsons. One portrait of Randy, done when he was ten years old, was purchased in 2005 by the Ypsilanti District Library in Ypsilanti Michigan, where it hangs in front of the children's collection. Randy is pictured standing on a stack of books. http://ypsilanticourier.com/stories/051205/loc_20050512006.shtml

Another painting of Randy was included in a 2006 show at the Ann Arbor District Library and is pictured here: http://www.aadl.org/events/list/?id=6079

She has also done several portraits of Brian.

Although some of her other work is portraiture, she has also done abstracts, still lifes, and landscapes.

Kleinman has sold many paintings in her senior years. In 2007, the University of Michigan purchased a mixed media portrait of a woman reading a newspaper. It is permanently displayed in the University's new geriatric center.
