[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Sam and Logan are starting their first day of preschool. Logan doesn’t have a clean shirt because Jimmy didn’t do laundry. Jimmy says he didn’t know about it. Christine says she left him a note. Kim says that must have been the note where someone changed the J to look like a K. Jimmy blames her for not doing the laundry. Christine and Kim go to pick up the kids at preschool. The teacher, Miss Brook, tells Kim what a hard worker Sam is and that he knows all his numbers and letters. She just says “See you tomorrow, big guy” to Logan. Later that night, Jimmy asks Christine how Logan’s day was and she tells him it looked like the teacher paid more attention to Sam than Logan. Jimmy says it was probably just a mistake. She tells him to pick Logan up the next day. Greg asks Kim how Sam’s day was and Kim says that the teacher likes him and Sam’s advance. Greg says he was advanced in elementary school.

The next day Greg and Jimmy go to pick up the kids and Miss Brook gives more attention to Sam again. Jimmy asks about Logan and Miss Brook says he is great. Miss Brook tries to give Jimmy the wrong kid and he has to point out which one is Logan. Jimmy storms out of the preschool. At night Jimmy tells Christine she was right about Miss Brook. Jimmy says the Hughes family is cursed because all teachers hate them. Christine says it is Kim’s fault because she sucks up to Miss Brook by baking cookies and making a portrait of her. Christine tells Kim to stop sucking up. Kim says she isn’t sucking up. Christine asks why are there sandwiches shaped like smiley faces on the counter. Kim says they are for dinner and makes Greg eat one. Christine says it is just what she did in high school. Kim says maybe she should do more instead on being lazy. Kim says it is between Christine and Miss Brook. Christine says she’ll have a few nice words tomorrow with Miss Brook. Greg gets sick from the sandwiches because of the cream cheese.

The next morning Christine shows up to school with a picture of Miss Brook and Jimmy has a whole honey glazed ham. Christine says they are sucking up as well. Kim tells her she is proud Christine is handling this well. They give Miss Brook the gifts, but she still ignores Logan and even makes Sam her helper for the day. Kim tells Miss Brook they need to talk in her office. Kim tells Miss Brook she is ignoring the rest of the class. Greg tells her not to focus on Sam because he is gifted. Jimmy asks if he is calling Logan stupid. Greg says it is like a big tall tree shining light down on the shrubs. Miss Brook says Sam gets more attention because he has no friends and is getting use to being alone without Kim. She states the Logan is the one of the most popular kids in class. Jimmy tells Greg that maybe the tall tree needs to shine some light down on the shrubs. That night, Greg blames Kim for Sam having no friends. Christine tells them they both screwed up. Christine tells them Sam will be up to speed in Logan in no time.
