I was under the impression the correct name was Fatso the Big-Arsed Wombat, not 'fat-arsed.'

We need a picture of the Fatso sculpture outside the Olympic (Telstra) stadium! He is standing on top of a pole, along with all the poles inscribed with the volunteer's names, between the Novatel and the stadium. Someone can take a photo and release it under the GFDL.John Dalton 08:37, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I passed this on to a photography forum I frequent, and someone kindly got a couple of pictures of fatso, and is happy for me to pass them on under the GFDL. Would I need this person's real name etc. or is it sufficient that these pictures are known to have been released under the GFDL by the photographer? Cheers Systemdown1 04:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Ideally get the person to write a statement saying they agree to release the photos under the GNU Free Documentation License and add the text of the statement to the image's page. Better still get them to create an account (or do it for them) and they can upload the photo themself (along with the I the author... GFDL tag). I've seen some people objecting to an image being uploaded alogn with a note "This is Bob's image and he said I could upload it", it seems a statement from the author/photographer is preferable. Actually, the photographer has published the pic under the cc-by-sa 2.0 license see here, which I hadn't noticed previously. It seems Wikimedia Commons will accept images under this license. Is this pic okay? Can it be uploaded to Commons? Systemdown1 07:06, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure it would be okay, so go ahead and upload it. If anyone has any objections, they can raise them in response to the uploading. I think the general rule with Wikipedia is if you genuinely think it is okay and a useful contribution go ahead and do it. You don't have to ask permission of anyone. If people disagree with your actions, they will tell you. The important thing is not to be bloody minded about it and continue to do something if lots of people are objecting.

I prefer the angle of the shot in the SMH article, so I might still try to get another shot of Fatso from that angle. Please do upload the image you have found though! John Dalton 01:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Picture added to article. There is a "behind" view here, but it's probably not as good as the side view that I've added to the article. The photographer says he'll be trying to get some better shots in better conditions, so we may have some better pictures soon. Systemdown1 04:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

By the way, the original Fatso is now housed in a glass case in Kerry Stokes's North Sydney office[1]. Anyone reckon they can get a picture of that?! John Dalton 12:58, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the stamp Fatso appeared on was the Australia Post "Australian Gold Medalist" series with the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay Swimming team, being held by Michael Klim, second person from the right. It was a 45 cent stamp, one of the ones that was produced within 24 hours of the event. Does anyone have a stamp to verify it? Could a scan be uploaded under fair use? Fair use allows stamps only for purpose of illustrating the stamp itself, not just the subject of the stamp. But as this article does discuss the stamp itself I think that using it here would qualify under fair use. - Waza 20:47, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
