Fat Larry's Band

Fat Larry's Band was a R&B band, who were most successful in the 1980s.

Created by "Fat" Larry James (drummer / vocalist); band members included Art Capehart, Doug Jones, Jimmy Lee, Ted Cohen, Darryl Grant, Larry La Bes, and Erskine Williams. They had two moderate hits in the UK: "Center City" and "Boogie Town". The band's biggest hits:

The opening drums from "Down On The Avenue", from the band's first album, Feel It, have been endlessly sampled in hip-hop songs, chiefly by rap group NWA.

"Fat" Larry James (born on 2 August 1949, in Philadelphia), died on 5 December 1987, thus sealing the band's fate.
