Teppic looked up. There was a senior assassin standing
beside him, with a purple sash over his robes. The man
was pleasant enough. You could imagine him making sausages.

The first collapse, for them, would have been like taking a
thin slice out of a human body and throwing all the rest away.

sausage : saus' [1] + age -> "fast aging"

  • "You take away some of the life time of a cow or pig, I take some of yours" [2] [3]
  • This might also refer more generally to stealing time from others, e.g. exploiting people.
[1] to bolt / to scoot / to sough / to swish / to whiz / to shy / to shoot [up]
see also: sausen and english to german back-translations, even lacking a scale for hotspots I do think this qualifies.
[2] In a way that apparently complies with human rights, as stealing time and also reducing total life time is not someting that receives significant attention. [4]
[3] Just for the record: My grandparents did have a farm and a butchery. (abstract: the precedent of messing up the lives of less intelligent creatures)
[4] not when it's done to mammals and seldom when it's done to humans, e.g. not when alcoholism or smoking are the cause. Association: Smoking_(food)

Association: sausen -> rauschen -> rauchen

tux / tuxedo : smoking -> rauch|en -> Ra + U + H -> Ra you age

rauchen :

Smoking is unhealthy but it can also be hard to quit.
Complement: "The mountain pasture is not the problem. What else are you doing with cows?" [2]
[1] transhumance
[2] A common goal of modern animal husbandry is to kill animals painlessly. Most probably the mentioning of misery is an oversimplification, however. Considering the ethical precedents you would probably not want to kill animals for any reason, except euthenasia. Keeping livestock may be ethically untainted when animals are never forced to comply with human goals and stay on a farm out of their own free will, e.g. because it is convenient. This rules out many uses of animals, except much more expensive milk and eggs.

Thinking there may be some inherent fairness here is wishful thinking. At best this is an unreliable trend.
