An isle is a place where only few people can go. Following Kant's Categorical Imperative going to a place where only few people can go has to be rejected as unethical, at least when that place is attractive or could be attractive to a larger group.
Examples of isles are:
- gathering wealth
- environmental destruction by
- excessive travel
- travel to nature reserves
- a lifestyle that cannot be available to everybody, e.g.:
- living on social security by choice
- living on the interest accumulated by a larger sum of money
- living on the return on investment from company shares or other investments
- even being tax exempt could be considered unethical, depending on the number of interested parties and the general consent of the society to support the tax exempt status.
The Maldives are a metaphor for the island of the rich: The resorts are very comfortable but there is very little room. It is also noteworthy that the maldives have an average height of only a few meters.
- It would be sensible, within the logic of this language, to insult somebody who is on an island or heading for an island. This can be a friendly warning "Mister, that's an island!" ¹
- ¹) There may be other reasons, like the precedent of insulting people, of course. ²
- ²) You can catch precedent-based karma from being on the passive side (e.g. being insulted and not taking appropriate steps in this case ³) and from the social group(s) around you, like family, school, friends, work, country, race or species. karma is complicated.
- ³) That's one of the problems with turn the other cheek, it can be too much of a good thing.
Floating island : "You might want to think about what is keeping these islands floating. Could it be somebody is being exploited somewhere in the system this relies on?"
- Monarchy : Most remaining monarchies are appreciated by the people who pay for them
- "Apparently you like to keep those islands?" (including not only the monarchies, of course, but also the islands without democratic legitimation)
- Complement: isles are unfair. ¹
- ¹) Almost by definition, but there is none, of course.
