Fastrada
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fastrada (765-794) was the daughter of a Saxon count in Lower Saxony. Together with other Saxon women, she allegedly threw herself barebreasted into battle during the Saxon Wars against Charlemagne's invading Franks in 783, causing terror among them. She later became the fourth wife of Charlemagne, to whom she was married in 784. She bore him two children:
- Theodrada (b.784), abbess of Argenteuil
- Hiltrude (b.787)
Her stylized role was played by Leland Palmer in the musical Pippin by Stephen Schwartz.
