Fashioncore
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fashioncore (sometimes rendered as fashionxcore) is a pejorative term used for bands/musicians viewed as non-substantial or derided post-hardcore or metalcore musicians and their fans. As is usually the case with condescension in subcultures, it is often used by veterans of a particular scene, in this case, the post-hardcore/metalcore one.
While bands and their fans labeled as fashioncore often resemble those labeled as emo, fashioncore bands usually exhibit a heavier sound and a more metrosexual take on the emo/scene stereotype. Bands that are most often linked to fashioncore are From First to Last, Eighteen Visions, It Dies Today, Escape The Fate and other bands.
[edit] Fashioncore Aesthetics
Fashioncore fashion, like that of most subcultures, is extremely varied and descriptions of it are often anecdotal. The term "Fashioncore" is often used in a broadbrush terms, which compounds the lack of hallmarks associated with it. However, some traits that exemplify the concept of Fashioncore are unnatural tones in makeup, often pastel shades, which are commonplace on both males and females of the scene. Large gauge piercings of the lips and ears and bright costume jewelry are borrowed from third wave emo. Bandanas are common as well. Clothing varies greatly, although it's often fairly similar to that worn by alternative rock fans in general; dark tones, hoodies, band tee shirts. Pants cut for females are popular with males, and androgyny as a whole is accepted within Fashioncore, a characteristic that brings criticism and often causes the scene to be connected to emo.
