Farringford House

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Farringford House is a large manor house, with a farm and golf course, located at Freshwater on the Western tip of the Isle of Wight in England. It currently serves in its capacity as a hotel.

It was also the home of Poet Laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson who resided here during much of his tenure as Poet laureate until his death in 1892.

Tennyson wrote fondly of his beloved home, here is an excerpt of his initial comments on the house.

"...far from noise and smoke of town, close to the ridge of a noble down,

you'll have no scandal while you dine, just honest talk and wholesome wine"
