Farook College, Calicut

Farook College is a center of higher education in Kozhikode, a district of Kerala, India. Its creation marked a breakthrough in the renaissance of Kerala Muslims. It was founded in 1948. Started as the first First Grade College in that area, it was originally affiliated to the University of Madras. On the reorganization of States, it came under the jurisdiction of the University of Kerala in 1957 and subsequently under the University of Calicut in 1968.

Commencing its academic activities in 1948 with 32 students and 5 teachers and two Undergraduate courses, it has grown steadily over the past 52 years and in 2001 it had an enrollment of 2027 (including Pre-degree) students taught by 149 teachers. Fifteen Undergraduate and Eleven Post Graduate Courses are offered by the College and of the total of 1621 students in these courses, 977 are women and 644 are men. The college started with the establishment of Rouzathul Uloom by Moulavi Abu Sabah. That first establishment is currently known as Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College and is now part of the sprawling campus.

Farook Institute of Management Studies (FIMS) is conceived to be a new generation management institution promoted by Farook College and governed by the leading industrialists of Malabar. The institute is supported by management experts like Mr. Mammen Mathew - Managing Director, Malayala Manorama, Mr. Javed Hassan - Chairman, Nest Group of Companies and Prof A. H Kalro, Former Director, IIM - K. It established within the Farook College Campus in an exclusive building designed aesthetically to provide a studious atmosphere to the students. FIMS is established with an objective for achieving excellence in management education nationally and internationally
