Farhan Akhtar Hindi: फ़र्हन अख्तर, Urdu: فرہان اَختر), (born January 9, 1974), is an Indian film director. He is the son of very well known scripwriter, poet and lyricist, Javed Akhtar and renowned screenplay writer, Honey Irani. He is also the grandson of Urdu poet, Jan Nisar Akhtar. His stepmother is actress Shabana Azmi.

He made his directorial debut in Hindi cinema with the 2001 blockbuster hit, Dil Chahta Hai, which starred Aamir Khan. He then moved onto his next project, Lakshya with Hrithik Roshan, which was released in 2004. Though the movie did not do as well at the box office, it won him a lot of critical acclaim.

He then directed a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan film, Don titled Don - The Chase Begins Again which starred Shahrukh Khan in the title role. The film released on 20 October 2006 and was a huge success at the box office. He recently produced the film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. which is also doing well at the box office. His sister, Zoya Akhtar, is also turning director with a film that is currently under production titled Kismat Talkies.

• Farhan Akhtar is the son of Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani and is married to hair stylist

Adhuna Akhtar and has 2 daughters Shakya and Akira Akhtar.Adhuna Bhabani Akhtar setup JUICE hair salon in Colaba and in recent times setup b:Blunt hair salon.Farhan and Adhuna met through Farhan's sister Zoya.They met at a night club in Mumbai 6 years prior to their marriage and Farhan first fell in love with Adhuna's dancing skills.Farhan himself is a brilliant dancer.Shakya was born around the time Farhan was directing Dil Chahta Hai and celebrated her first birthday when Farhan started shooting for his second film Lakshya. Akira was born recently on the 12th of february 2007. Akira means 'anchor' and shares her name with the Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.

• Always referred to as a metrosexual guy.
• Farhan Akhtar said that when he left college, he spent about two years at home and did nothing productive. During those two years, he watched about two films daily. Akhtar said that it was this period of his life which allowed him to connect with the character of Karan Shergill, the protagonist of Lakshya which film Akhtar directed, begins with Karan as a young, unemployed slacker who stays at home, sleeps late, and has no ambition or aim in life.
