Far East University is located in Gamgok-myeon, Eumseong County, North Chungcheong province, South Korea. It was founded in 1994 by Dr. Taek-hee Lyu. The school flower is the chrysanthemum.

When it first opened its doors on March 5, 1994, the school was a technical college known as Far East Information College (극동정보대학). It became a university in 1998, and the first graduate programs began in 2000.

The undergraduate courses of Far East University are divided among eight colleges and seven independent departments:
