As a child, Zhao Shuyang (Ivy Lee) was adopted by Zheng Zhigang (Chen Shucheng) when her parents got separated and remarried. Under Zheng's mentorship, Shuyang grew up to become a promising lawyer, specializing in divorce cases.

Having experienced the deep love and warmth from her adoptive parents and stepbrother, Zheng Weilun (Terence Cao), Shuyang still yearns to marry despite past hurts and disappointments. Her stepbrother, Weilun, has been trying to woo Shuyang but to no avail, because Shuyang has no feelings for him at all because she only has an eye for Gao Ming.

However, Shuyang's faith and beliefs are greatly shaken when she finds out about Gao Ming (Thomas Ong), her adopt father's illegitimate son. To make matters worse, she finds herself falling for the ever-flamboyant Gao Ming. Towards the end, she finds herself contracting cancer and it cannot be cured! Who would she choose: Gao Ming or Wei Lun?

In the last episode, Shuyang chose Gao Ming to be with her and Wei Lun went to jail due to some scandalous affairs. Shuyang managed to keep her condition in control by eating medicine, and she extended her life for 11 more years in the show before she died.
