Fame (Overground MC)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fame, a rapper from the greenville section of Jersey City, NJ. This artist born from working class parents in the early 80's, prides himself on being excessively gifted with diction and wordplay.
The artist began his career as a member of the rap group "The Steel Curtain". This group had minor success in the Baltimore and Washington regions, while improving Fame's credibility with his native tri-state audience. Fame's first solo song "Trick What", a satyrical composition known for its catchy hook, increased Fame's audience and captured the attention of several major labels. The artist felt that this song was lackluster and did not represent his theme and purpose well.
He soon abandoned any further projects in that same vein and set out to create a new genre of hip hop. Fame, influenced by the UK's Trip Hop scene and the raw old school "boom bap" era, felt that if he could meld traditional hip hop beats with the outlandish concepts and atmospheres of Trip Hop an entirely new sound could form. This form is called "Overground", an obvious play on the phrase "over your head". To the artist, Overground is the conjoining of form and sonic melody. The lyrical content should be advanced and abstract, the music should be everchanging and rampant, taking the listener to new heights during the listening process.
Fame completed and promoted his solo album "In Stereo" which is his first attempt to capture "Overground" for the masses to have access to.
