Falcon (sport)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Falcon is a humorous term in sport describing an accidental knock to the head by sports equipment. The phrase originated in Australia on The Footy Show after casual presenter and former rugby league player Mario Fenech was repeatedly shown having a ball passed to him and hitting him on the head. Mario, being of Maltese descent was nicknamed 'The Maltese Falcon', and thus the 'Golden Falcon Award' was awarded to players whose head came into contact with the football in NRL games.
