Falciparum malaria refers to malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, the primary agent of malaria. Another form of malaria, vivax malaria, is caused by the Plasmodium vivax parasite. Falciparum malaria is not only more prevalent than vivax malaria, but it is also causes the highest mortality.
