Faisal Al-Khaled

H.E. Faisal A. Al-Khaled (b. 1945 in Kuwait City) is a Kuwaiti politician and businessman.

Born in the old Al-Khaled house (formerly known as “Al-Amarah”, currently the historical Al-Khaled Family Diwan) the son of the two well-known Kuwaiti nobility and merchant families, the Al-Khaled and the Al-Kulaib family, H.E. Mr. Al-Khaled is considered as one of Kuwait’s prominent figure in the political and lately in the private sector arena.

H.E. Al-Khaled, the grandson of humanitarian and philanthropists Sheikh Sultan Al-Kulaib and Sheikh Hamad Al-Khaled, earned his Bachelors degree from Whittier College in Whittier California in the mid 1960s. He began his career in the public arena as an analyst at the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. H.E. Mr. Al-Khaled later became the Chairman of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development until he later held the post of Minister of Commerce and Industry from the year 1986 to 1990.

During the Iraqi invasion in 1990, H.E. Mr. Al-Khaled, along with a group of Kuwaiti and Egyptian investors, created what is now one of Cairo’s largest and most coveted English schools,the Modern English School, which Kuwaiti students during the crisis were granted full free admission and education.

In 1993, H.E. Al-Khaled accepted his nomination for a post at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund where he served as an Executive Director, representing the MENA region.

In 1996, H.E.Al-Khaled was nominated and appointed as the Ambassador of Kuwait to the Arab Republic of Egypt where he served there for a term of four years.

H.E. Al-Khaled is considered as one of the few political figures to have held a portfolio of posts and enjoys a highly regarded and distinct reputation of integrity, skill, and professionalism. He is widely known as the “clean” political son of Kuwait.

H.E. Al-Khaled has retired from the public arena in the year 2000 and has since dedicating his experience to his family’s investment and real estate business. He is on the board of a number of local and international companies, non-profit organizations, and international institutions. H.E. Al-Khaled is a father of five children and up to 2005 a grandfather of two girls.
