- Further information: Plot of Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail story arcs
The story of Fairy Tail focuses around the adventures of main characters Natsu and Lucy, who are sometimes accompanied by the members of the Fairy Tail Guild.
In the beginning, Lucy is a young sorceress, who wants to join Fairy Tail Guild. On her trip, she meets Natsu, a young boy, who is looking for Igneel the Salamander. She offers them a lunch and Natsu explains that Igneel is a dragon. Lucy talks about her dreams to join a famous guild, which she later reveals as the Fairy Tail Guild. Later, she is tricked and abducted by Bora of Prominence to be sold as a slave. She is rescued by Natsu, who is the real Salamander, and a true member of Fairy Tail Guild. He offers her to be a member of Fairy Tail. Lucy gladly accepts and joins the guild. Since then, Natsu and Lucy have formed a team. So begins the adventures that the pair encounter while operating missions from the guild.
In the Fairy Tail universe, some people are gifted to use magic, which often grant them capabilities far beyond those of normal people. This society of wizards and sorcerers align themselves to different Magical Guilds, where missions to earn pay, as well as other information involving magic can be found. A governing group, the Magic Council watches over the Magical Guilds. They have declared Dark Guilds, which accept assassination missions banned. The currency is called the Jewel (ジュエル Jueru) and its symbol is a "J".
[edit] Characters
[edit] Fairy Tail Guild
A powerful guild that is disliked by the Magic Council because its members often cause a lot of unnecessary trouble during their missions.
[edit] Magic Council
Sieglein (ジークレイン Shīgurein) - A young mage whose magical power is noted to be higher than that of the older members of the council. Though other council members have been critics toward Fairy Tail modus operandi, he likes the way they act and use magic. He also has some kind of past or could have had a previous relationship with Erza and seems to be interested in Natsu, whom he refers with his full name of Natsu Dragonil. He bears striking resemblance to Sieg Hart, a character in Hiro Mashima's other manga Rave Master.
Urrutia (ウルティア Urutia) - A sorcerer who is seen magically playing with a lime sphere.
[edit] Eisenwald Guild
A Dark Guild which was banned by the council because it took assassination missions; it is led by Shinigami Eligor and remained operative until it was defeated by Fairy Tail.
[edit] Other villains
Bora of Prominence - The first villain shown in the series. He was banished from the mage guild "Titan Nose" because he committed several thefts using magic. He was using Natsu's nickname "Salamander" and saying he was part of Fairy Tail. He uses a magical charm to attract women to sell them as slaves. Bora's plans are ruined when Natsu defeats him and his crew.
Duke of Evaroo - Owner of a giant mansion that contains a book that must be destroyed. He has a weird sense of beauty, preferring ugly women over beautiful women. He easily discovers Lucy being part of Fairy Tail, so he sends two fighters to kill her. He also seems to have a penchant for bursting through walls, ceilings and floors. He is the second stellar spirit mage to appear in the manga, using the summon Virgo.
Dark Mage Zeref - A mage that knows how to use Living Magic, the Lullaby being an example of one. He/she is referred to "the most atrocious mage in the history of magic".
[edit] Minor characters
Kaby Melon - Client that hires Natsu, Lucy and Happy to destroy a book called "Daybreak" in the Duke of Evaroo's mansion. He wants the book destroyed because his father was forced to write that book for three years by the Duke of Evaroo while abandoning his family.
