Fairfax is a town in Franklin County, Vermont, United States. The population was 3,765 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 104.9 km² (40.5 mi²). 104.1 km² (40.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it (0.77%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 3,765 people, 1,222 households, and 966 families residing in the town. The population density was 36.2/km² (93.7/mi²). There were 1,249 housing units at an average density of 12.0/km² (31.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White. There were 1,222 households out of which 44.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.8% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% were non-families and 14.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 38.8% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 115.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 121.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,769, and the median income for a family was $55,074. Males had a median income of $34,971 versus $26,362 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,632. About 2.7% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.7% of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.
