Fairdale, Illinois

Fairdale is a small unincorporated community located in Franklin Township, in the northwestern corner of DeKalb County, Illinois. It is located on the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern RR and on Illinois Route 72, about 7 km east of Exit 111 from Interstate 39.

Fairdale has an approximate population of 150. In 2007, Fairdale is also home to Woodsman Lumber (www.woodsmanlumber.com), Nest Featherings Antiques, Elfstone Studio Pottery (www.elfstonestudio.com/About.asp), Wiegand's Victory Enterprises (www.wiegandsvictoryenterprises.com) and is the "hideout" for veteran comedian Jim Wiggins, a.k.a. The Last Hippie in America (www.lasthippie.com)

An 1875 Atlas of Illinois gives the name as Hicks Mills, while an 1892 one gives it as Fielding, on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul RR.
