Fagani is small village located 2 Kilometers near Petlad. The population is around 5000. It is near Anand, one of the biggest cities of Gujarat. There are mainly farmers in this town. However, other proffesions include Doctors, Pharmarscists, computer engineers, mechanical engineers, etc. Farmars mainly grow bananas, tobacco, and chiles. Farming is their basic source of income. For generations, many people have lived here and it is believed that many of the families of this town, according to the elderlies, came from Punjab, a Northern state of India. This occurred, according to belief, about 400 years ago. However, new generation does not believe in this ideology. Fagani rececently hosted a cricket tournament by which their youth club helped the foundation of village. This cricket tournament was sponsored by many local companies and it was a huge success. Some believe that they have actually never seen this kind of tournament before. Arrange marriage is the typical way of the way villagers get married. This village is part of community of 14 village Leavao Patidar Samaj and mostly people get married between this villages. However, there are always exceptions. The mayor or "Sarpanch" is elected every 5 years. He is usually famous guy from village. People here loves to play cricket, and enjoy criket so much that they get together every evening and play cricket with youth and elders. Majority of people in this town are Hindu, followed by Christian. However, in Hindu, there are 4-5 different sects, according to their last names, usually. There are Patidars, which are majority, then Barots, thakurs, and vagharies. About 50 people from this village currently migrated to United States and are constantly visiting villagers once in five years, and yes the author of his article, myself, is also a villager who grew up there and stayed up there for about 12 years.
The unity of this town is very strong and it is said, by one of the villager, that "every villager knows other villager, by heart." This is very rare in any town.
