The Fadeaway Man is a DC Comics supervillain and a recurring foe to Hawkman. He first appeared in Detective Comics # 479 and was created by Len Wein and Rich Buckler.

[edit] Character history

While cataloguing the collection of 18th century occultist Cagliostro, art history professor Anton Lamont came across the ancient occultist's legendary conjure cloak. This garment is supposedly possessed with great mystical power. Lamont quickly deduced the means to operate the cloak and embarked on a criminal career.

When Midway Museum curators Carter and Shiera Hall returned from a long vacation, they found the Fadeaway Man had taken their places as interim leader and was attempting to loot the Museum. In their aliases of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, they defeated him, but he escaped using his conjure-cloak.

Months later Anton resurfaced in Gotham City, where he attempted to auction off a sarcophagus to the highest bidder. He was defeated by Hawkman and Batman, and although captured, took his cloak with him to prison.

Shortly before Infinite Crisis Lamont joined the Society in Villains United # 1. In Hawkman # 37-45 he orchestrated a failed plan consisting of assembling some of Hawkman's foes in order to kill the winged hero.

[edit] Powers

  • Fadeway Man possesses the cloak of Cagliostro which provided access to another dimension, allowing him the ability to teleport.
  • He also has access to a hidden storehouse of weapons he had acquired over time.
