F'lar

F'lar is the Benden Weyrleader and rider of bronze Mnementh in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. At the time of his ascension, Benden Weyr was the only populated weyr on Pern. F'lar, whose childhood name was Fallarnon, was the son of the previous Weyrleader, F'lon. Like F'lon, F'lar believed that Thread would return to devastate the land. His life work was to protect Pern from the scourge of Thread, and he even promised the Lord Holders that he would destroy Thread completely at its source, the Red Star. F'lar's mother, Larna, died just after giving birth to him, and he was raised by Manora, the Headwoman at Benden Weyr. She was also the mother of his half-brother F'nor. F'lar got into many knife-fights with aggressive villains, and killed Fax, the self-styled "Lord of Seven Holds". This victory resulted in the discovery of F'lar's life mate, Lessa of Ruatha Hold. Together they had a son, F'lessan, whose childhood name was Felessan. After the discovery of AIVAS, F'lar was one of the champions of the scheme that rid Pern of thread forever.

F'lar has dark hair, with amber eyes that he inherited from his sire, Weyrleader F'lon. F'lon was a son of the Weyrleader S'loner, as well. F'lar's mother, Larna, was a weyrgirl that F'lon had fallen in love with. F'lar was attracted, briefly, to the gold rider Kylara, but he has always loved his Weyrwoman, Lessa.
