Fălciu County

Fălciu county was a territorial entity in Moldavia (until 1859), then in Romania between 1859 and 1948. Its capital was the town of Huşi. Another important town was Fălciu.

Fălciu was a land (ṭară)of the principality of Moldavia. After the formation of the Kingdom of Romania, it was integrated in the new administrative system as a county (judeţ). It was one of the most ruralized counties of Romania and one of the poorest. The communist regime disbanded the Falciu county in the late 1940s when they replaced the counties with the russian-based "raioane".

Most of the population was formed of romanians (91%), but there was also a jewish presence (6000 strong in 1930). Orthodoxism was the main religion of the inhabitants. County population in 1930 was around 115.000.
