Für Zwei Groschen Musik

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Für Zwei Groschen Musik (English translation: "Twopenny Music") was the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1958, performed in German by Margot Hielscher.

The song was performed eighth on the night (following Belgium's Fud Leclerc with Ma Petite Chatte and preceding Austria's Liane Augustin with Die ganze Welt braucht Liebe). At the close of voting, it had received 5 points, placing 7th in a field of 10.

The song is in the chanson mode popular at the early Contests and is in praise of music itself. Hielscher sings about the simple joy which can be had by paying a small sum of money to hear music.

It was succeeded as German representative at the 1959 Contest by Alice & Ellen Kessler with Heute Abend Wollen Wir Tanzen Geh'n.
