Fårö

Fårö is a small island just to the north of the island Gotland outside Sweden's south-eastern coast; the second-largest island belonging to the Swedish province of Gotlandia. It is a small, agrarian island.

The island is separated from Gotland by the Fårö-strait, but connected by cable ferries, operated by the Swedish National Road Administration. It has an area of 111.35 square kilometers, whereof 9.7 km² are water areas – bogs – or islets.
The renowned Swedish film-maker Ingmar Bergman lives there, and the island provided settings for his Fårö-trilogy of Hour of the Wolf, The Passion of Anna and Skammen. Andrey Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice was also filmed on Fårö.
On the islands of Fårö and Gotland, rock formations called "Rouk" can be found. These were a result of erosion during the Ice Age and are unique to Gotland and Fårö.

[edit] Fårö Fyr (Fårö Lighthouse)
On the islands north-eastern point the Fårö fyr lighthouse is situated. It is 30 meters tall and was constructed in 1846-47.

The Langhammar peninsula and the Langhammar nature reserve on north-western Fårö feature rocky beaches with rauks, many meter high rocks sculpted by nature.

The Digerhuvud nature reserve features the Helgumannen fishing village.

The long, sandy Sudersand beach on north-eastern Fårö lies next to Sudersands Semesterby which rents cabins for tourists.
