ExpressionEngine is a content management system developed by Oregon-based EllisLab, Inc.

While ExpressionEngine can be purchased in order to receive a license and dedicated support, a free (as in beer) version called ExpressionEngine Core is also available that provides all of the abilities of a typical blogging system.

It is one of the leading content management systems currently available (in the same vein as Joomla, Textpattern, Wordpress, and Movable Type). It is written using PHP & MySQL.

ExpressionEngine uses a proprietary license and only offers the free version for non-profit and non-commercial use.
