Expeller

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Expeller pressing is a chemical free method whereby oil is mechanically squeezed from raw materials in a single step, under high pressure. Typical raw materials are nuts, seeds and algae, which are supplied to the press in a continuous feed. Expeller presses can recover up to 75% of the oil from algae. As the raw material is pressed, friction causes it to heat up, for harder nuts which require higher pressures the material can reach temperatures of over 120 °F[1].
