Exline is a city in Appanoose County, Iowa, United States. The population was 191 at the 2000 census.

Exline is located at 40°38′60″N, 92°50′24″W (40.649922, -92.840059)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 191 people, 72 households, and 49 families residing in the city. The population density was 74.5/km² (192.3/mi²). There were 81 housing units at an average density of 31.6/km² (81.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.95% White, 0.52% African American and 0.52% Asian.

There were 72 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.9% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% were non-families. 23.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.16.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $22,019, and the median income for a family was $19,792. Males had a median income of $23,750 versus $19,444 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,896. About 29.8% of families and 27.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 33.3% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
