The merits of the link are inconsequential; the fact that you have connections to the organization make it spamming and against policy. The argument against someone else adding EWI is that there's already a US based welding association link on the page (the AWS, which has been around for 65 more years than EWI). The other two links are there because they provide a more global perspective, although admittedly the Canada link is weak. Furthermore, the EWI website gives no additional information about welding itself, it merely describes the organization. --Spangineer^[es] (háblame) 15:15, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps I should request clarification from the Wikipedia management. I disagree with your perspective about excluding EWI as an additional link on the page. If necessary, I'm sure another Welding expert or authority unconnected to EWI would agree that it should be added to the page. As a new contributor to Wikipedia I am not completely versed on its spamming policy. By no means, do I intend to spam the site. I would like rules of fair play to apply to the page. EWI provides many pages of information on Welding and I repeat is similar to The Welding Institute in its mission to assist those in need of weling R&D.EWI

There really isn't any "management"; things are determined by consensus. I've been around here for over a year and a half, am an administrator, and have participated in numerous debates over external links. I understand that you aren't trying to spam, but if you notice in the WP:EL policy, external links are supposed to add something to the article. Wikipedia is not a link farm, so the idea is not to create a listing of links to related topics but to include links that our readers will find useful. I don't see any reason that a general reader looking for information on welding would find the EWI website helpful. People looking for welding organizations can look on google, or on a wikipedia article specific to welding organizations or even EWI itself. --Spangineer^[es] (háblame) 15:34, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
