In computer science, an evolutionary approach is an acquisition strategy that defines, develops, produces or acquires, and fields an initial hardware or software increment (or block) of operational capability. It is based on technologies demonstrated in the relevant environments, time-phased requirements, and demonstrated manufacturing or software deployment capabilities. These capabilities can be provided in a shorter period of time, followed by subsequent increments of capability over time that accommodate improved technology and allowing full and adaptable systems over time.

This article appears to contradict itself about its title as the reference cited below does not use the phrase "Evolutionary approach" anywhere. It talks of "Evolutionary acquisition" and two approaches to it. Maybe the article needs to be moved to a new title. Please see the discussion on the talk page.
