Journey's fifth studio album, Evolution, was released in April of 1979 on the Columbia Records label.
Journey continued its streamlined approach to songwriting and the result would be their highest charting album yet. They retained Roy Thomas Baker as producer but said goodbye to drummer Aynsley Dunbar, replacing him with Steve Smith, formerly with Ronnie Montrose's band.
This album opens up with "Majestic", a short, non-vocal track. The album featured their first top 20 hit in "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", which is still featured prominently in the current tours, even being used often as the encore. Other strong selections here include "Too Late", "City of the Angels", and "Just the Same Way", the latter being the only track on the album on which original lead vocalist Greg Rolie gets a turn at the table.
Highest chart position: #20
