Evan Williams (whiskey)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Evan Williams is a brand of bourbon whiskey which is distilled and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky at the Heaven Hill facility. It is bottled at an ultra-modern facility where lower-priced brands of Scotch whisky, which are imported in bulk, are also bottled. It is aged for a minimum of seven years and is said by some to be a relatively high-quality whiskey given the fact that is produced and bottled in fairly large quantities and sold for a relatively modest price.
Most Evan Williams bourbon is sold as the mass-market "Black Label" variety. Evan Williams also bottles Evan Willam 1783 ten-year-old bourbon in more limited quantities and a highly rated, ten-year-old single barrel bourbon sold in bottles sealed with black wax.
Evan Williams is the second largest-selling Kentucky straight bourbon. Founder Evan Williams began distilling in 1783 near Louisville, Kentucky. Another interesting fact about Evan Williams is that it is 43% (86 proof) contrary to most hard alcohol which is 40% (80 proof). Recently Evan Williams has gained popularity on college campuses because of its modest price, specifically in the Inland Empire. Common slang words for Evan Williams are "Edubbs," "The Only Man I Would Ever Love" (also used for Jack Daniels), "Who Hit John" or "Who Shot John" (terms used for whisky generally in the films The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Shootist.[citation needed])
