From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eva Mylott (1875 Tuross Head, Australia - c. 1920 New York) was an Australian contralto opera singer.

Her parents, Mary Heffernan and Patrick Mylott, an importer of wine and spirits, were immigrants from Ireland to Australia.[1] Mylott became a protégé of Dame Nellie Melba and in 1902 she went to Europe with her to pursue an opera career outside of Australia.

In America, in 1914, she met and married a rich businessman named John Hutton Gibson and had two children, Hutton Peter Gibson, in 1918 and Alexander Mylott Gibson. After the birth of her second child she died of postnatal complications.

She was the grandmother of actor/director Mel Gibson.
