Category talk:Evangelicals who teach Abstinence from Alcohol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Let me explain the reason for this category:
This is not just a list of religious people who abstain from alcohol, but a list of those who actively teach that all Christians should abstain from alcohol. This should therefore be a category in and of itself, and should probably replace the "teetotaler" category for some articles (after all, if they explicity teach teetotalism, they would obviously express their own practice of it).
Also a word on not using "Teetotal" in the article name.
Amongst Evangelical Christians, this issue is popularly known as "Abstinence from alcohol", rather than the more general description of teetotalism. It is therefore better to use the term that is used by this group of people. Recent evidence of this can be found in an article by Richard Land, in which his writing against the drinking of alcohol often uses the word abstinence but never uses the word teetotal.[1] Another recent article by Daniel L. Akin also uses the word abstinence and never uses the word teetotal.[2]
