Eurycratides

Eurycratides was a King of Sparta from the Agiad dynasty,reigning ca. 615- ca. 590 BC,being the 13th of that line.His name is derived from the Greek "eury",meaning "wide".

He reigned in the earlier and most devastating period of the war with Tegea (see:Herod, i. 65).

He is mentioned in the seventh book of Herodotus's Inquiries : "(Leonides) Anaxandrides’ son, Leon’s son, Eurycratides’ son, Anaxandrus’ son, Eurycrates’ son"

His predecessor was Anaxander (who was his father) and his successor was Leon (who was his son) c.590 - 560 BC
