European Parliament election, 2007 (Bulgaria)

Bulgaria will elect its members of the European Parliament for the first time on 20 May 2007. Before the election, the breakdown of MEPs (who served as observers up to the end of 2006) per party was as follows:
- Coalition for Bulgaria — 6 MEPs, all PES
- National Movement Simeon II — 4 MEPS, all ALDE
- Movement for Rights and Freedoms — 3 MEPs, all ALDE
- United Democratic Forces — 2 MEPs, all EPP-ED
- Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria — 1 MEP, EPP-ED
- Bulgarian People's Union — 1 MEP, EPP-ED
- National Union Attack — 1 MEP, ITS
It is likely that the five Bulgarian nurses and the Bulgarian doctor sentenced to death in the HIV trial in Libya will stand as candidates to put pressure on Libya to release them.[1]
