European Commissioner for Education, Training & Culture

European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture is a member of the European Commission responsible for policies in education and training, youth, sport, civil society, culture, translation, interpretation and relations with the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities. The post is currently held by Commissioner Ján Figeľ (EPP-ED)
Under the Barroso Commission, training and multilingualism was added to the portfolio, previously being "Education and Culture" under the Prodi Commission. The Directorate-General still carried that name (Directorate-General for Education and Culture). With the 2007 enlargement and the arrival new Commissioners, multilingualism was given to the Romanian member, Leonard Orban.
