From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Europa Nostra is a non-governmental organization in Europe which promotes the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage.
It was founded in 1963 and has its headquarters in The Hague.
Since 1978, it has promoted the Europa Nostra Awards Scheme, a series of prizes for excellence in preservation and restoration.
In 2002, it was selected by the European Union to administer an EU prize series "for the promotion of excellence in heritage conservation practice", and these prizes, incorporated into the former scheme, are known as the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards.
