Eucarida is a superorder of crustaceans, comprising the decapods, krill and Amphionides. They are characterised by having the carapace fused to all thoracic segments, and by the possession of stalked eyes. Of all the groups of crustaceans, the Eucarida appeared relatively late in the fossil record. They first appear in the Mesozoic era, but are presumed to have first evolved much earlier.
