Tiel ( 51°53′N, 5°26′E) is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Tiel, and lies about 23 km north of 's-Hertogenbosch.

In 2001, the town of Tiel had 36935 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 8.1 km2, and contained 14726 residences.[1] The statistical area "Tiel", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 38430.[2]
