[edit] Croatia

As of 18 June 2004 Croatia is now an official candidate. [1] Map updated as appropriate. (Quick-edit. A properly recoloured and re-anti-aliased version will be put up later. The quality difference is negligable). Zoney 11:46, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Can I?

Dear Zoney,

Can I get the bigger one of the map, because I'd like to use this new one on the Hungarian Wikipedia? I'd really prefer a Photoshop format if there's any, or maybe an Adobe Illustrator. Or do I have any choices?

(Of course I'd like to get the map after you made the changes to the rivers :))

Thanks

I'll be back to broadband on Sunday evening (GMT) so I'll upload a large and normal blank maps. I suggest text is better added to small version, anti-aliased of course - but the text doesn't resize down so well. Better to use small font on finished size. Zoney 17:14, 22 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Blank image available

Ready to label in any language. I must do a leagan Gaeilge at some stage.

Very-very nice, thank you very much. I'll go and make the Hungarian one later this day.
Can you tell me the fonts and font sizes (only the major sizes, I'm not interested in each one like Luxembourg's) you used in the picture (because I like them too, and would like to use them)?
Great job!
--Szajd 11:16, 2004 May 24 (UTC)
EU members - ALL CAPS, Font: Verdana, Bold, 5 (Lux,Slov), 6 (UK,Irl) and 8pt (Fr,Es).
Candidates - ALL CAPS, Font: Verdana, Normal, 8pt.
Others - Capitalised, Font: Georgia, (Bold?) Italic, 4 (Herz,Mont) ,5 (Croatia, Serbia), 8 (Ukraine, Belarus) point.
Key/Headings - Capitalised, Font: Verdana, Italic.
Hope that helps! Zoney 13:13, 24 May 2004 (UTC)
Thank you very much, it really looks cool than the older one (hu:Kép:Europaiunio.png). Actually the font sizes didn't work well with me, but I chose them to look nice. --Szajd 15:44, 2004 May 25 (UTC)
Good job - looks like you had a bit more to try fit in!
Zoney 16:22, 25 May 2004 (UTC)

I've done the Chinese version, you can see it at zh:Image:European_Union_no_rivers_territories_16.png. Lots of fun trying to fit everything into the Balkans. ;) BTW you haven't added Croatia to the blank map yet.

Thanks for the map! -- ran 10:45, Jun 26, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Croatia on blank map

BTW you haven't added Croatia to the blank map yet
Oh yes I have! :o) It's in the same (perhaps too light) shade that Turkey is in. (Because 2007 date for Croatia too may not be agreed).
The reason for the light shading is that the actual EU members are in an already quite light shade to allow black text. Why? Because the text frequently overlaps white sea. Also aesthetically the light shading looks nice. But there is a slight problem that not many lighter shades (even just two) are possible). Hopefully all can live with the current situation. The dark country shading was the problem last time with previous map!

That's really weird -- I've tried clearing my cache and reloading the page, but Croatia still looks unchanged to me. -- ran 11:44, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)
Hmmm... Weird. Just reading your comment, I'm now in Work not Home and guess what, the map had not Croatia coloured. A quick refresh on the image page and all was well. It must be being cached somewhere (maybe an intermediate server?) - in any case, try refreshing again, maybe on image page or just the image loaded up on its own. The Internet is a strange place!

[edit] Other versions

I created an Irish version and a French version, so that's 5 languages including English now!

[edit] Vector format

Do you have this map in vector format? I would really appreciate it, since I need it for a geography game I'm making. Cheers! -Stianbh 23:20, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

No, sorry. zoney talk 09:56, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ok. Thanks for answering! -Stianbh 20:29, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
