[edit] Adam Lieber

A tag has been placed on Adam Lieber, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. EMT1871 14:06, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey mate, chill out. Please stop targeting one or more user's pages or talk pages for abuse or insults, unwarranted doctoring or blanking. It can be seen as vandalism and may get you blocked from editing Wikipedia.
Furthermore: Please try and keep a cool head, despite comments people may make against you. Personal attacks and disruptive comments will only escalate a situation; please keep calm and action can be taken against the other parties if necessary. Your involvement in attacking back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors, and lead to general bad feeling. Please try and be civil. Thanks! (CJ) dewet| 13:18, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A Great Welcome, thanks for blocking me!

Regarding User:Dewet: Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. ShaunES 12:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC).

  • Removing unblock request. You are not, and never have been, blocked. If it was an IP block you have to give us the IP address if you want it unblocked. Wikibofh(talk) 14:50, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Precisely DeWet

Could you please not delete the Alternative South Africa page, even though its content may contain queer or feminist references that you disagree with! Regardless of policy, I will retaliate if you insist on policing content that fails to live up to the standards of "white South Africa". Passive-aggressive behaviour such as exhibited by some of my compatriots, lead to campuses being invaded by baton-wielding cops during the 80s, in the mistaken assumption that our thoughts and ideas could be changed by force! As for Wikipedias Neutrality and Biase? When Nestle makes reperations for apartheid war crimes, then we can all talk about biase. Neutrality on a national page? Forget it!

Ethnopunk 11:19, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] South African Blocks

Okay, I get it, there's some weirdo called Crowbaaa, and I am not he!!

"Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Crowbaaa". The reason given for Crowbaaa's block is: "constant disruption of WP:AN / WP:ANI, trolling"."

Would somebody please rectify the situation so that I don't lose it everytime something interesting happens. Ethnopunk 11:29, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

There is a current problem of SAIX proxies being blocked. As you have found, you can only edit your own talk page. In light of that, and the questionable validity of Alternative South Africa, I strongly suggest you develop the page as Dewet suggests - as a sub-page of your own. Why don't you develop existing pages, like Culture of South Africa instead (it seems to be what you are striving for ?) Alternative South Africa is heading for another going-going-gone unless it radically improves. Wizzy 11:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Dear Wizzy, could you shut the fuck up, unless you have something constructive to say. No, doubt, that article will arrive, in its final form as g-d intended, and you are free to attack it then, but as far as the validity of the topic is concerned, suck my *453

I have moved the article to User:Ethnopunk/Alternative South Africa, so you don't lose your work. Wizzy 11:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A friendly warning

Please do not make personal attacks on other people. Wikipedia has a policy against personal attacks. In some cases, users who engage in personal attacks may be blocked from editing by admins or banned by the arbitration committee. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Please resolve disputes appropriately. Thank you.

You have been treated with respect and given friendly tips, something which you have not reciprocated with. Don't think that you can do what you want; Wikipedia operates within a set framework of rules -- if you choose to ignore them, you will be blocked and won't be able to contribute any more. dewet| 12:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A friendly, sort of response

Who elected dewetto police the discussion on South Africa? I take exception to the rudeness of his tone and his assumption that he represents South Africa. Also, I don't think deleting the Alternative South Africa article sets a good precedent. As for getting personal, I'm not about to make friends with an engineer who refuses to acknowledge the vast contribution of people like Koos Kombuis, Benoldus Niemand and Valient Swart to popular culture. If it weren't for the "alternative" label, nothing would have changed in the country.

Spurred on by such invective, Ive decided to go ahead and create a genuine "Alternative South Africa" whose starting point will be everything that the so-called South Africa domain policed by certain "individuals", is not. You may join the discussion on counterculture, but I'm not going to buy into Mr South Africa's prognosis about either the media, or wikipedia policy. Ethnopunk 15:17, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I deleted the article, both times. User:Dewet is a respected contributor to both the English and Afrikaans wikipedias. I expect that, in time, you will also be. If you are proposing a POV fork, it will not survive. Please read the links Dewet pointed to. Koos Kombuis, Benoldus Niemand and Valient Swart, and their contribution to Culture of South Africa, sounds like an excellent project, and I support you in doing so (as does Dewet). You will encounter least resistance if these articles spring into being as at least a paragraph, conforming to style, spelled correctly, and wiki-linked to other relevant articles. Have at it. Wizzy 15:43, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Or what, you'll erase my name from the annals of history and shambock students in the library like what happened while I was at UCT? While I appreciate your effort, I really don't like being dominated by a couple of engineers from the computer dept. Do I really have to argue for the inclusion of popular culture and media studies as something more than an offshoot of boerestaat? BTW, its a long haul project and not something that's bound to spring up overnight.

Ethnopunk 15:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Goodness, you aren't one for easily making friends, are you? You have come with preconceived notions and stereotypes (engineers and boere, nogal!), and attacked without provocation. Somewhere you've gotten the idea that I am "policing" South African topics to reflect some fantasy version of history, which couldn't be further from the truth! I challenge you to look through my contributions, and show me one instance of that! As you can see, the articles on Koos Kombuis, Bernoldus Niemand and Valiant Swart are waiting to be written; not because of censorship, but because of simple lack of hands. Click on the red links and do it! However, your confrontational style will hamper all your contributions to this serious, honest project. Take this as advice, or leave it. dewet| 16:01, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
It's a pity really, because those notions keep getting varified by passive-agressive behaviour learnt while playing Quake or Doom. Its not the interface I don't trust, its the way software engineers take over the encyclopeadia, while insisting that pictures of bare breasted women prancing around naked on the savannahs isn't racial or masculine bias. I'm off to an alternative event in Observatory to talk about corporate bias in the news. Later. Ethnopunk 16:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Excellent straw man! ;) Seriously, though, you're making less and less sense; I'll just leave it be, this is too adolescent. dewet| 16:38, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
And what does the wikipedia say about tilting at windmills? Methinks this is all about ego! Ethnopunk 10:01, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Please remain polite. Dewet has been very patient with you. Wizzy 10:36, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
A good start might be af:Koos Kombuis, af:Bernoldus Niemand and af:Valiant Swart - articles that already exist in the Afrikans wikipedia. Wizzy 16:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
That's the thing, I'm not trying to reproduce work already done, rather to create another entry point, along the lines of Library of Congress reference headers!!Ethnopunk 16:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

It was a speedy delete and was fully justified if I remember it correctly. Admins do not need to speak with authors in such situations. If you'd like me to recreate it, please let me know why it shouldn't have been deleted and I'll look into it. Thanks.Gator (talk) 13:26, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] South African Pop History: Dance

Nice job at South African Pop History: Dance. Not sure the title is really right for Wikipedia, but it is an easy thing to fix (and I do not have a good suggestion for another title). Wizzy 12:11, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ECC

Nice edits on the ECC page. I'm a bit concerned about categorising the ECC as anti-war. See my comments on Talk:End Conscription Campaign. Thanks, Zaian 18:51, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Angolan War

The text in Angolan War was copied directly from the URL cited. Also, please check out Wikipedia:No personal attacks, Wikipedia:Civility, and Wikipedia:Copyrights when you get a chance. Thanks. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:41, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy: There is no excuse for personal attacks on other contributors. Do not make them. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that you may be blocked for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thanks. -- Strothra 17:41, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Apoligies for the Ad Hominem attack, but the text was not copied directly from that site. It was saved and then edited online. The result was substantially different and in no way a copyright infringement. Schuminweb is behaving like a boy scout who knows he is in the wrong, the copy should have been moved to the discussion page before being deleted.

Should I report him as a "Vietnam War" denier? Is he saying there was no opposition to the Vietnam War? Same thing isn't it

[edit] NPA Warning

You joined Wikipedia:Community Justice, and ironically your statement was a personal attack. You have a history of making personal attacks:

This is your last warning. If you continue to make personal attacks, you may be blocked for disruption. Computerjoe's talk 14:07, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Justice

Umm, excuse me if I don't know what you're talking about, but what are you talking about? _-M o P-_ 15:50, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Somebody removed me from the CJ list and took the tag off my user page. Defeats the purpose don't you think? Ethnopunk 15:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

So how am I to blame? _-M o P-_ 15:58, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
You are suspended from Community Justice, making you not a member. MoP is right. Computerjoe's talk 16:09, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Pretty lame don't you think. An organisation that doesn't accept its own principles is rather like a gang, in short mob rule. Ethnopunk 16:27, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Our organisation's goals have changed from justice to civility. That fact you made a personal attack in your membership statement is surely enough!
If you wish, you may request assistance from a advocate or make an appeal to the elected council. Computerjoe's talk 17:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
you're forgetting about the audio alterem partem rule -- let both sides be heard before delivering judgement, but that would be asking a bit much from the mobsters at CJ Ethnopunk 08:25, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Be careful

Hi, maybe by now you know that I have some of the same interests as you and contribute to some of the same discussions. Maybe we're from similar backgrounds too, but Wikipedia hides that, and lets you build up a reputation based entirely on your contributions. I've followed yours with interest, and noticed you getting into a lot of arguments. Most recently, I saw your comment "Just so you know, I clapped and cheered when the WTC came down" on Talk:Angolan War. This is a friendly but very serious warning not to say stuff like that, ever. If it needs any explanation, consider the feeling in your stomach if someone said they cheered when the Sharpeville massacre happened, or when they heard how many Africans are dying of Aids.

So where to from here? You could go a lot further sharing knowledge about topics that you know and care about, but only if you act a lot more carefully to avoid the fights you've been getting into. Sorry this is a real sermon, but someone needs to say it to you nicely. Otherwise you'll either burn out and leave in disgust, or be pushed out by the community. I'd rather you stayed. How you react to this warning is a test of your character. I don't think you're going to find many people going to this length to include you. Zaian 21:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Zaian, but the situation is really like somebody laughing off the Angolan War or forgetting about Sharpville and saying my experience (along with hundreds of other South African's) is irrelevent, because they know-it-all. The debate has been dumbed down to the point of stupidity merely because the American media left out the CIA's role in the war and now some bright spark sees fit to question my bone fides. As for my comment on the WTC, its not something I say lightly, I would rather launch a critique of the information age, the lack of contemporaneity in cyberspace and the disadvantages still faced by those living in the third world but that would take all day. Ethnopunk 08:02, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia is not a bureacracy

In particular, Wikipedia is not a system of law. Disagreements should be resolved through consensual discussion, rather than through tightly sticking to rules and procedures. Instruction creep should be avoided. A perceived procedural error made in posting anything, such as an idea or nomination, is not grounds for invalidating that post. Follow the spirit, not the letter, of any rules, policies and guidelines (see Wikipedia:Wikilawyering). Our dispute resolution process exists to mediate and arbitrate disputes between users, not to enforce judicial remedies. From What Wikipedia is not. Ethnopunk 13:02, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Justice

You are welcome to put your side of the story at Wikipedia talk:Community Justice/Meeting 1#In Favour of Expulsion. Computerjoe's talk 17:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

The reason that some users have more rights than others is because they are given them, following a RfA, RfB, been given developer or stewart status or been elected to WP:ARBCOM. Computerjoe's talk 14:45, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello! I am just letting you know that you have been reinstated as a member of WP:CJ. The outcome of the meeting was that you will be placed on CJ probation (basically one user will just ensure you are being civil for a while, and ensure that you can not been seen as incivil to others). I have been nominated to take such a role, and have accepted. There is no need to worry, I will let you know of anything which maybe viewed as incivil. Good luck, and once more welcome to Community Justice! Ian13/talk 17:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Justice Newsletter

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members was discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is incivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar
The Civility Barnstar which our members have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [1].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making {{tracker}} redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

[edit] Rehane_Abrahams on deletion review

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Rehane_Abrahams. Since you closed the deletion discussion for (or speedy-deleted) this article, your reasons on how or why you did so will be greatly appreciated in the above review. Any possiblity of gaining access to the content. She is an important South African actress! Ethnopunk 14:34, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

It's been undeleted. See my comments at Wikipedia talk:Deletion review - CrazyRussian talk/email 16:25, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Maumaulogo.JPG

Excuse me, but did you really create the logo of Gallery Mau Mau? (If not, then you are in no position to release it under the GFDL license; however, you may want to change the tag to {{logo}} - fair use of a logo in the article about the organization.) Thank you. Regards, Mike Rosoft 13:09, 15 August 2006 (UTC) Mike, I paid for it, so I own it. But thanks for the tip, I don't exactly want to give it away!Ethnopunk 13:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your vote please

Hi Ethnopunk - Please vote on the proposed name change of the 'South African farmer murders' page. The straw poll is here. Please also pass this message on to others you think would be interested. Thank you! Cheers, Jason Lionchow - Talk 08:29, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concordia Newsletter

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

[edit] Help out now!

  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

[edit] Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

- Ian¹³/t 20:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC). Kindly delivered by MiszaBot.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:JN9488-OCTOBER 1989 COVER.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:JN9488-OCTOBER 1989 COVER.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
