[edit] Usage instructions

This template is the project banner for WikiProject Ethnic groups, and is added to the talk pages of articles within the Project's scope.

[edit] Small size option

Setting the parameter |small=yes creates a more compact, right-aligned version. See Talk:Popora people for an example.

[edit] Quality scale

The first table below gives a brief, one-sentence description of possible quality scale values. Before assigning any article to a class, please take a few moments and read the full description of the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team's assessment system.

[Also see the Other Template Parameters, in the second table below.]

Each article may also be assigned to a particular class, intended as a point-in-time assessment of its overall "quality" - relative to the criteria given in the quality scale which is detailed below. Articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed by default in Category:Unassessed Ethnic groups articles.

The following values may be used for the class parameter (they should be entered exactly as given):

Class parameter values (Category:Ethnic groups articles by quality)
Value Meaning Category
class=FA Articles which are currently Featured status articles FA-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=A A-class articles; A-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=GA Articles with a current Good article status GA-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=B B-class articles; B-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=Start Start-class articles; Start-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=Stub Stub-class articles; Stub-Class Ethnic groups articles
class=NA Not applicable; ie for miscellaneous pages such as disambiguation pages, which do not require an assessment Non-article Ethnic groups pages

[edit] Importance scale

Each article may also be assigned a particular importance; for ethnic groups, we make a ver simple use of this. Articles for which a valid importance has not yet been provided are listed by default in Category:Unassigned-importance Ethnic groups articles.

The following values may be used for the importance parameter (they should be entered exactly as given):

Class parameter values (Category:Ethnic groups articles by importance)
Value Meaning Category
importance=Top Major, broad articles like ethnic group, nation Top-importance Ethnic groups articles
importance=High All actual ethnic groups and similar entities and articles on the history of any ethnic group within a particular country or region High-importance Ethnic groups articles
importance=Mid Other articles that are likely to be of general interest (for example, an article about the theatrical traditions of a particular ethnic group) Mid-importance Ethnic groups articles
importance=Low Articles that are not about individual ethnic groups and are not likely to be of general interest (for example, a building that houses an ethnic organization); also miscellaneous pages such as disambiguation pages, which do not require an assessment Low-importance Ethnic groups articles

[edit] Discussion

[edit] Small parameter not floating

When set to |small=yes, this template doesn't "float" on the right side of the screen but instead forces the text (or table of contents, etc.) to start on the line below it. For an example see Talk:Jew. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:41, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

That would be easy to change, if desired. I made it that way, tho, 'cause the floating version hosed up other pages (tho I disremember exactly which page I was thinking of at the time...) .. hmm... --Ling.Nut 23:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I think it would be a good idea. Since it takes up more vertical space in the small mode than it does as a banner, it defeats the purpose if it doesn't float and instead pushes the text down. Thanks! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 05:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
OK, "try try see" :-) --Ling.Nut 16:26, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. Talk:Jew looks much neater now! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:55, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review parameter

I'm now in the midst of setting up a Project-wide peer review, modeled after WP:BIOPR. Would it be possible to add a similiar peer-review request parameter to this template, something like peer-review=yes? That would be a wonderful step forward for the Project. Thank you! -Fsotrain09 16:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Sure. Let me think about it. Can get it done relatively quickly if my schedule permits... --Ling.Nut 17:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Problem! User:Voice of All has taken it upon him/herself to delete at least one and perhaps more categories used by WP:ETHNIC. This template's makes such categories available for editors' convenience. I dunno if the cat I create for peer reviews will subsequently be deleted... I would say "sneaky-deleted," but it is possible these deletions were announced somewhere.... --Ling.Nut 18:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
