Ether Dome

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ether Dome was the operating room of the Bulfinch Building at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. It was the first place that ether was demonstrated to the public on 16 October 1846 by William Thomas Green Morton , a Boston dentist, as an anesthetic for surgical procedures. It is now used for medical conferences and presentations, and is open to the public when not in use. It contains a remarkable contemporary painting of that historic event by Warren and Lucia Prosperi.
